Yerevan Brandy Company
Occupying a commanding position on a hill overlooking the Hrazdan Gorge, this fortress-like distillery offers daily guided tours including generous tastings. The company cellars are full of barrels dating back to the 19th century, including one that won’t be opened until a Karabakh peace deal appears.
Winston Churchill was known to be a great admirer of the ‘Armenian cognac’, he first tasted the drink at the Yalta conference. The British Prime-Minister ordered up to 400 bottles of brandy per year. Agatha Christie and Frank Sinatra loved this brandy, too.
Tours take 75 minutes – the charge is AMD4500 if two recent vintages of brandy are tasted, AMD10,000 if you opt for three aged vintages.
