Lori region is in the northern part of Armenia, bordering on Georgia. It is considered Armenia’s greenest area, with more native forest land than any other region of the country. Known for its stunning landscapes and rugged forests, the region is host also to two World Heritage Sites: the Monasteries of Haghpat and Sanahin, plus numerous other monasteries and churches along the Dzoraget, Pambak and Debed River gorges, forest complexes.
Location
The region has favorable geographic position. Armenian general railway and highway runs through the central part of the Lori region which are exit to Georgia and Black Sea ports, Turkey as well as in the capital Yerevan. The region has a mountainous relief. It’s surrounded by Javakhk, Bazum, Pambak, Gugarats, Virahayots, Halabi mountains.
Economy
Lori Region is rich in in mineral springs and natural resources. There are mines of metal (gold, copper, molybdenum, and iron), construction materials, mountainous chemical materials, precious and semi-precious stones.
